Autocraft Drivetrain Solutions wins prestigious ‘Business Innovation’ award!

Autocraft Drivetrain Solutions is very proud to be winners of the 2019 Grantham Journal Business Awards, “Business Innovation” category! The award recognises the talented engineering skill and ability we have at our factory in Grantham, and the truly innovative work we are doing there. We were also Highly Commended in the ‘Manufacturing & Engineering’ category.

For the past few years Autocraft Drivetrain Solutions has been working on ground-breaking technology for our sector. We have transformed the standard for assembly of engines from a manual process by using Industry 4.0 (4th Industrial Revolution) digital manufacturing techniques to not only increase productivity, but also to make a quantum-leap in the quality of our products. Our ‘No-Fault-Forward’ assembly technology means that assembly faults are rectified before moving forward in the process, so we can’t build an engine incorrectly.

We have pioneered the use of digital manufacturing techniques such as robotics, augmented reality, camera recognition and digital data capture to provide the highest levels of quality and traceability for our customers, which are JLR, Ford, Volvo, Aston Martin, PSA and JCB. On our newest lines, we can now train an engine builder in 2 weeks instead of 6 months, and have reduced the training times to build other engine variants from 1 week to 3-4 hours. This has made a huge impact in cross-skilling our staff, meaning we have much more flexibility in our production schedules.

Congratulations to everyone at Autocraft Drivetrain Solutions who has worked so hard to make our ‘Augmented Reality Engine Assembly’, a reality.
